Youth get head start at Careers Expo

SCHOOL leavers have been given a head start in the world of work or study thanks to a Careers Week hosted by Kingsgrove High School.

Culminating in a Future Links Careers Expo and hailed as a huge success, it was designed to beef up opportunities and connection with the local community and education and job providers.
A range of universities and colleges were represented, along with the Australian Defence Force, Training Services NSW, Engineers Australia, Leisure Employment Australia, Qantas and NSW Police Recruitment among many others.
Students from Kingsgrove North, Beverly Hills Girls and Wiley Park Girls high schools were also invited to benefit from the opportunities through the expo.
“The expo is a stepping stone to a brighter future. It’s an occasion to dream big, expand your horizons and ignite the fire within you,” School Principal Olga Sofo said. “Remember that success is not merely a product of talent, but also of exploration, perseverance and the ability to make informed choices.”
Students heard from sponsor NSW Ports Operations and Environment Division’s Jonathan Lafforgue, State MP for Canterbury, Sophie Cotsis, the Education Department’s Relieving Deputy Secretary, School Performance South, Deborah Summerhayes and 2020 Kingsgrove High alumni Jason Ye as well as Expo organiser and school careers adviser Artemis Theodoris.
“We at Kingsgrove High, feel it is never too early to have our students exploring careers and pathways available, connecting the skills they are building now, to outcomes for tomorrow,” Ms Theodoris said.
