Youth forum with free food, prizes

GIVING a voice to young people throughout Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) for the last five years, the Youth Council is gearing up for their Annual Youth Forum in October with the theme, ‘What does mental health and well-being mean to you?’.

Comprising about 20 people aged from 16 to 25, the WSLHD Youth Council is also compiling a mental health resource directory list which will provide young people with an extensive list of available help services within the local health district.
Three members – Isha Ahmad, Mia Napolitano and Rebecca Yu – have been selected to join the recently established Ministry of Health’s NSW Health Youth Advisory Group.
A WSLHD Youth Council facilitator Sarah Young said the initiative empowered the representatives to influence healthcare policies by incorporating their insights and perspectives, promoting youth-focused healthcare in NSW.
“Other achievements include organising a youth art competition, a youth services instagram page with links to useful websites for alcohol, drugs, sexual health, physical health and homelessness as well as a Young People’s Health Strategy to improve health outcomes,” she said.
With an opportunity to take part in workshops and to hear from panellists, the Annual Youth Forum will also offer an expo of community services available to the young.
With free food and prizes, the jam-packed day will be on Friday, October 27, 8.30am-3pm, in the Westmead Education and Conference Centre (WECC) at Westmead Hospital.
