Terrence Tran spent two months in hospital receiving treatment in 2023, attending Bankstown Hospital School to keep up with his Year Nine studies.
While at the school, he sketched a series of images of the paediatric ward from his perspective which he titled ‘My Hospital View”.
The unveiling of Terrence’s artwork coincided with NSW Public Education week (August 5-9) with the theme ‘proud to belong’.
The artwork highlights how a student can feel a sense of belonging no matter the setting they are engaging in learning.
“I enjoyed my time sketching and drawing many things, reading books provided and doing some robotics with another patient/student,” Terrence said.
Bankstown Hospital School was established in 1966 and is situated within the paediatric ward of Bankstown Hospital, providing an educational service to hospitalised students from pre-school to Year 12, with 553 students enrolled last year.
The school also celebrated the completion of renovations – including a smartboard and new furniture – to maximise the space and foster a warm and welcoming environment for students of all ages.
The hospital’s Acting General Manager, Jennifer Assaf said the new additions helped kids feel comfortable during their time in hospital.
“We see kids as young as three years and up to 18 at the school. It’s important we create an inclusive, collaborative and connected environment to give students the best opportunity to thrive during complex and challenging circumstances,” Ms Assaf said.
“It’s wonderful to have the new renovations and artwork from past students which will hopefully make future students feel more comfortable.”
