Your say urged on return of 50 ‘alcohol free’ zones

EVERYONE is being encouraged to have a say on the proposed renewal of almost 50 Alcohol Free Zones and Alcohol Prohibited Areas.

Cumberland Council has completed an interim consultation with the Auburn and Cumberland Police Area Commands and plans to renew the existing 46 Alcohol-Free Zones – a key part of the Cumberland Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan – for a four-year period.
A council spokesperson says the zones provide an early intervention measure to prevent the escalation of irresponsible street drinking, to incidents involving serious crime and are enforced by NSW Police. Any person found to be drinking in that area may have the alcohol in their possession immediately seized and tipped out or otherwise disposed of.
The renewal of the zones is a key action in the Cumberland Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan.
