Lachlan placed second in the boys under 15 Nett and Ebony placed second in the girls under 13 Nett and fourth in the scratch.
Only taking up golf three years ago, Lachlan does not come from a golfing background but Dad Shaun Weir has recently taken up the sport to play with him.
“Lachlan takes everything in and works hard at his weaknesses,” Shaun said.
“He does have the ambition to become a professional golfer but he also recognises the importance to keep up his school grades.
“My biggest tip for other parents would be to be supportive and patient with your child regardless of the sport they choose.
“Lachlan was excited with his win, which has been his greatest so far; he said it felt like a reward for all his hard work.”
Ebony’s Mum Victoria Park said her daughter had been playing golf since the age of eight in the kids program.
“She started lessons at 10 after she played some social golf with us, as myself and husband play,” Victoria said.
“At home, we have set up an area where she practises her swing at least three days a week.
“Ebony’s goal is to become a stable scratch player (aiming to be GA of 0 – her current GA is 7.5).”
Victoria says that if your child is interested in golf, consult the PGA pro at Carnarvon and book for the structured lessons.
“It takes time to build up the skills but it is worth it as your child can use the skills for the rest of their life,” she said.
