Young bowler kept winner on his toes

Bowling champion Sam Annetta and runner up Jack Barclay.

KEENLY contested, Padstow Bowling Club’s Minor Singles Championship is an honour board event open to all ages but limited to members who have not won a Minor competition previously.

Played in a knockout style over several rounds, last week saw long-time member Sam Annetta take out the championship but a recent young member, Jack Barclay, gave him a run for his money.
The club’s Glenn Rorison said the final game was played in great spirits with a supportive crowd watching.
“It was definitely a thriller for everyone who was there, including our top two players,” he said.
“It shows that lawn bowls is a game that can be enjoyed by both young and old.”
Milperra’s Jack, 14, joined Padstow Bowling Club eight months ago and highly recommends bowls as it is flexible.
“You can still play other sports like football, soccer, netball, cricket or whatever and bowls as well,” he said.
Junior practice is held every Monday, 5-6pm, with adults playing from 6-7pm.
