State MP for Parramatta, Dr Geoff Lee, was joined by the Sydney Olympic Park Authority and the surf park designer, developer and operator URBNSURF to celebrate construction commencing on the 3.6 hectare site.
“The new wave park will make surfing accessible to more than two million Western Sydney residents, all within about 30 minutes from home,” Dr Lee said.
“The project will also provide an important boost for the local economy, and deliver longer-term jobs across hospitality and tourism.”
Opening in early 2023, the new wave park will offer authentic surfing waves, and Anita Mitchell, Chief Executive at Placemaking NSW, says it is yet another reason for people to visit Sydney Olympic Park.
“We’re incredibly excited to be working closely with URBNSURF to develop what is set to be one of Sydney’s most unique sporting developments,” she said.
Damon Tudor, CEO of URBNSURF, says he is excited to be delivering the State’s first wave park and contributing to more sport at Sydney Olympic Park.
“The technology behind the waves will deliver high quality, authentic surfing waves to suit all abilities, delivering over 600 waves an hour in a safe and welcoming environment,” he said.
“The surf park will also feature a yoga studio, leisure pool for families, skate park, surf academy staffed with expert coaches, beach cabanas, a surf shop, a kids’ playground and more.”
URBNSURF joins more than 50 sporting organisations located at Sydney Olympic Park.
