Wood to captain ‘over 70s’

AUBURN’S Tom Wood will captain the Australian Over 70s Cricket Team.

Described as “a true son of the Auburn-Granville region”, the 74-year-old toured Great Britain with the squad in 2018 and will now lead them against England in the Over 70s Ashes Tour of Australia in February.
Having captained the Auburn District Cricket Club to the 1989-1990 Shires First grade Premiership, he also played and captained the first grade teams of the Parramatta and Randwick clubs in what is now called Premier Grade.
The former Granville Boys’ High captain also represented the NSW Colts from 1969-1972, as well as being a member of the NSW State training squad.
Richie Benaud once commented in a book that “Tom Wood is one of the most promising young leg-spinners” that he had come across.
