Women of West Music Fest a free, family friendly event

BREAKING the barriers of sexism and ageism, Bankstown Arts Centre, in partnership with The Cultural Arts Collective, will present the Women of the West Music Festival in March and April.

It celebrates the diversity of all kinds of women with performances by women led bands, singer-songwriters, hiphop artists and choirs.
Maria Mitar, event curator and co-founder of The Cultural Arts Collective says: “Female artists and parents have found it difficult to find family friendly live music venues in Sydney, where they can bring their children to a quality gig.
“We want to be at the forefront of positive change by creating a women-led safe space for original music.”
In the long-term, the festival will develop a network for industry peers and community elders to support emerging female artists. It will also produce a series of podcasts about women in the music industry.
The event also honours International Women’s Day 2020 with the theme: “I Am Generation Equality: Realising Women’s Rights.”
With Blue Mary, Sepora and DJ Kilimi in the line-up, headline artist is Leah Flanagan who was raised by a community of cultures bolstering her proud Italian, Aboriginal (Alyawarre) and Irish heritage.
Classically trained, Leah navigates between soul, jazz and pop.
There will also children’s arts and crafts so bring a picnic to enjoy Women of the West Music Festival on Saturday, March 7, 4-6pm, and Saturday, April 18, 3-5pm.
