Women blitz foe with bat

AN opening 43-run stand from Erin Burns and Tahlia Dunne, followed by a quick-fire 30 from Ash Gardner, led the way for Bankstown Sports’ win in the women’s First grade cricket competition.

Early on, Gordon got a few away but Bankstown did well to contain their openers and start taking regular wickets to stall Gordon’s runs.
After a 44-run opening stand, wickets started falling thanks to the spin bowling of Jannutal Sumona who ended with 5/21 off 8 overs as well as Australian reps Gardner and Burns who both ended with a wicket each.
The pace bowlers also chipped in with Alice Whelan and Solo Aoina taking one each as well; Gordon’s innings ended in the 36th over for 103.
A change in the top of the order saw Burns (29) open the batting with Dunne (11), followed by Gardner, and then Angelina Genford (18) and Jade Errington (10) got Bankstown Sports home comfortably in the 20th over.
Unfortunately both Third grade and U18 Brewer Shield were washed out.
The U15 Sixers Cricket League girls went down in a thrilling final against Marrickville Cricket Club.
Chasing 74 runs, Jessica Robertson picked up 2/3 off 2 overs while Sevani Gezginci, Katie Abrook and Aditi Shirore all claimed a wicket apiece.
Needing six to win off the last over proved just too much for Bankstown who finished with 5/71 off their 20 overs.
The Bankstown District Cricket Association U13 Mollie Dive girls got their season off to a good start in the NSW Youth Championships but a very experienced Parramatta side proved too strong.
Parramatta’s innings ended on 7/105, with Rayani Jayawardana the pick of the bowlers finishing with 2/7 off 5. Ava Gaughan 1/25, Bareen Haider 1/11, Bella Stevens 1/23 and Katelyn Dancy 1/12 all chipped in with a wicket throughout the innings.
In reply, Parramatta were too good, bowling Bankstown out for 51 in 23.5 overs. Bereen Haider top scored with 16 (20).
