The man had originally pleaded guilty in September to charges of aggravated cruelty and failure to provide vet treatment to a horse, and been fined $3,000, ordered to pay veterinary expenses of $4,416.33 and to enter a 12-month Community Corrections Order.
He was also ordered to re-home all animals in his custody and prohibited from purchasing, acquiring, taking possession or custody of any horse for a period of two years.
The charges came about after RSPCA NSW inspectors were called to assess a horse laying in the middle of a paddock and in “very poor body condition” (pictured) at Wilton in September, 2019.
The mare also had a number of injuries, including a large split in her left hoof which was at least six months old.
Unable to contact the property owners, the RSPCA seized the horse for emergency veterinary treatment but she had to be euthanised the following day.
