Wins club’s first ‘pie-eating’ race

IT took ‘Big George’ (second from left above and onlookers, left) less than five minutes to scoff down five pies in Padstow RSL’s inaugural pie-eating contest to celebrate Australia Day last week.

There were nine other contenders giving him a run for his money and coming very close but according to the club’s Joanne Korch, ‘Big George’ Elfalak was the clear winner and picked up the $50 pot for his efforts, after all participants paid an entry fee of $5.
Pie-eating competition runners up were Bryce and Raf.
“It was so much fun watching everyone tuck into their Four’n Twenties, just hilarious,” Joanne said.
“It made for a fantastic Australia Day and we even got a shoutout from 2GB’s Ben Fordham.
“We’ve invited ‘Big George’ back to defend his title next year.”
Joanne said that a club director, Scott Milham, who they call ‘The Peoples Director’, volunteered to cook the all-day, free sausage sizzle, with the sausages provided by and half donated by Jumbuck Meats at Oatley.
The club also hosted happy hour at 5pm, two fun jelly shots for $2 (Off Ya Melon and The Wobbly Bogun) and live music provided by Stringybark who sang all the Aussie classics.
“Everyone said how great a day it was and are already looking forward to next year,” Joanne said.
