The 22-year-old, former St Felix Bankstown and Georges River Grammar student has just signed a one-year deal with the club after a call-up from coach Mark Torcaso to head south to train and trial with the club.
“I worked hard throughout that period and I got a call from the coach asking my thoughts about relocating … I said yes straight away,” she said
“It was crazy, it was a whirlwind.”
Renowned for her exceptional athleticism, she has thrived in all athletic competition since a young age, and been involved in range of sports, from football to track and field to OzTag, and has played for some of NSW’s biggest clubs in the National Premier Leagues, including Sydney Olympic.
A natural attacker, who can play on the wing or striker, she was training with Western Sydney Wanderers earlier this year and hopeful of getting a run this season when the call came from the Western United coach.
“I thought it would be a good challenge, so I jumped at the opportunity,” she said.
“It was a bit tough to take the leap but I’m so glad I did. It’s insane how things have changed … but really good.”
Arriving at training a week after her call up, she said she knew she had made the right choice: “The culture was great, they were very, very warm and welcoming … I got a good feeling as soon as I got there.”
Coming off the bench in her first match she said she had a decent run and “got a couple of touches”.
“The game was amazing, it was so surreal, but once you’re in, it was like ‘wow’, I couldn’t stop smiling.”
Her dream is to play for the Matildas who were “super impressive” in the World Cup.
“The Matildas’ performance was unreal, it brought so much more atmosphere and growth to the sport as a whole,” she said.
“But for now, I just want to keep improving week in and week out and continue proving myself and make a mark here.”
Already missing her family, she said they will be making frequent visits to watch her play.
Western United are one win from two matches.
