Winning Eels at slippery best

SCORING 16 points it was yet another high octane performance for the Sydney Kings by Casper Ware. The star guard defended a goal attempt by Scott Machado from Cairns Taipans in the dying seconds of Sunday night’s game and managed to help force a pass that was picked off by his Kings’ teammate Brad Newley who managed to run out the clock and seal their second win in as many games.

A STUNNING try to Parramatta winger Maika Sivo in the shadows of full-time has given the Eels a 16-12 victory over the defending premiers Storm in driving rain at the Western Sydney Stadium on Thursday night.

Two spectacular high-flying tries from winger Maika Sivo stole the show, one of which was the match-winner when the Fijian international crossed over to give the Eels the lead.
With the score locked at 12-12 in the 77th minute, Eels halfback Mitchell Moses had launched a bomb from 45 metres out from the Storm’s line, with Sivo steaming through down the left flank.
Sivo leapt off the ground to beat his opposite number and catch the ball on the full, before crashing over for the match-winning try and his second of the evening.
It took the Fijian winger’s record to 26 tries in 24 matches at the Eels’ home ground, and capped a match played in the rain that at times threatened to boil over.
Eels Captain Clint Gutherson was also brilliant, making three try-savers playing on a heavily strapped left ankle.
After the Storm had been stuck at their own end for the majority of the second half, their weary defence finally let go.
Moses said his team knew they just had to hang onto the ball and kick it to the corners.
“We do have to fix up a few things,” he said.
“But we knew what we had to do and we did it.
“The field held up not too bad for what was actually some pretty good footy.”
The Eels next take on the Cronulla Sharks at Bankwest Stadium on Saturday from 7.35pm.
