Win sees Hawks fly to table top

SOARING straight to the top of the table, Stanmore Hawks have enjoyed a 3-2 win over Granville in Round 16 of the NPL 3 competition at the weekend.

Stanmore dominated the first half and went ahead on 17 minutes when Jovan drove the ball into the right hand corner of the net.
Three minutes later a bullet header from Connor Quilligan stretched the lead after a signature corner from Alberto Parea.
Stanmore could have gone to the break 3 up but Peter Yannopoulos struck the upright after being set up by Blagojevic.
The second half went to a bit of a lull with Stanmore content to hold on to their two goal buffer and Granville not conjuring up much on goal.
That all changed 74 minutes in when Granville slotted in from point blank range to reduce the deficit.
Granville started to run the ball and looked threatening. The scores were evened up with 12 minutes remaining as Neram Yalda chipped over keeper Carosi.
Stanmore rallied realising another draw would be little consolation and found the winner with 5 to go when Blagojevic netted his second from another Perea corner ensuring Stanmore would take all 3 points.
Next week Stanmore travel to Melita Stadium to play Parramatta.
