Win scholarship for study

STUDENTS from Merrylands and Holroyd high schools were among 700 across Australia that received scholarships at last week’s 2023 Proudly Public! Awards administered by the Public Education Foundation.

There were five students from Merrylands High – Ahmed Hadi, Marwa Akbary, Mehnaz Mohebbi, Annalys Johns and Jennifer Israel, two students from Holroyd High – Sonia Hussaini and Ansiyah Seemeen and a student from Merrylands East Public School – Sofia Usama.
Merrylands High School Principal Amika Prasad said the students were all well-deserving recipients.
“We are very thankful as are their parents,” he said.
“Many of these students are from low socio-economic backgrounds or refugees so any kind of financial support to help equip them for school or their studies is a massive boost.”
Mr Prasad said it had been a joy to witness previous recipients flourishing after receiving the support.
“There have been many success stories where children have completed their high school studies and then gone onto achieve even further goals at university and are now in good jobs,” he said.
“It makes a huge difference to their futures and we are very grateful.”
Department of Education Acting Secretary Murat Dizdar said the scholarships are about recognising student excellence, potential and ability and rewarding students so they can continue to reach their potential.
