Produced by Bekaa Dairies in Clyde, the win – in the Champion Dairy Dessert, Custard or Mousse category, is the most recent of many for Auburn’s Chedid family which has been operating from their Clyde wholesale base for 14 years.
Katie and George, along with sons Jamie and Jason, produce a range of delectable sweet and savoury products, including yoghurts, cheeses and puddings, which they supply to leading retailers such as Woolworths and Harris Farm Markets.
Katie says there is no secret to their success which comes from using only pure, natural ingredients and no additives; a practice originating in Lebanon many years ago.
“We make all of our products as if we’re making them for the family and you know when you do that, you don’t add thickeners or preservatives,” she said.
“Our champion rice pudding comprises only milk, sugar, rice and cinnamon but it’s the way my husband cooks it that makes it so creamy and beautiful.
“It’s the same with our other products, for example, our Attiki Yoghurt contains nothing but yoghurt and culture; even our labneh and shanklish are just marinated in oils.
“You can really taste the difference and we’re so pleased that the Royal Agricultural Society judges thought so too.”
