Win for shoppers as works to extend carpark complete

SHOPPERS in Punchbowl should find parking a little easier with the extension of the Arthur Street car park.

City of Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour is pictured inspecting the $450,000 upgrade with Cr Mohammad Huda, who was instrumental in advocating for the project, which includes 23 extra car parking spaces, including two disability spaces.
“It is one of our most used car parks, so increasing the number of car spaces was important to meet the demand,” he said.
“The construction of this extension is an important step in the council’s plans to provide more parking in Canterbury-Bankstown’s town centres, which is close to businesses, transport and services.”
Works to the existing and new section of Arthur Street car park work included: Extension of existing car park into adjacent vacant land; construction of footpath, driveways and kerb ramps; construction of new median islands, kerb and gutter; ashphalt resurfacing and line markings; and installation of new signage, lighting and landscaping.
Another nine car parks have been earmarked for improvements in 2019-20, with more than $2.2 million allocated for those projects.
