The GDSFA’s annual awards were announced at a gala presentation dinner held last month with Cumberland Mayor Steve Christou and Shadow Minister for Sport and State MP for Auburn, Lynda Voltz, among the guest award presenters.
Ms Voltz congratulated all the clubs who did “a fantastic job to get players young and old back on the field” during a year where community sport was disrupted by the pandemic.
The Philip Williams Referee of the Year Award went to Khodr Yaghi, while the inaugural Fred Barlow Medals for Male and Female players of the Year went to Tom Guthrie and Katherine Bacha respectively.
Other award winners included Tracey Herrera who won the Female Golden Boot Award for her 28 goals for the Holroyd Rangers Soccer Club, Tom Guthrie who received the Male Golden Boot for his 20 goals for Greystanes FC, and the Auburn Football Club (AFC) who took home the Social Media Award.
One of three Service Recognition Awards presented on the night also went to Martin Byrne from Lidcombe Waratah Junior Football Club.
