Widen busy road bid

WIDENING Davies Road at Padstow might not be easy but it could help reduce increasing congestion on the busy road.

Highlighting growing community concerns about the traffic situation on the state road, Councillor Glen Waud has called on Canterbury Bankstown Council to help address the issue by writing to Transport for NSW (TfNSW) asking for Davies Road to be widened between Watson Road and the Alfords Point Bridge.
While numbers might be down compared to last year because of the ongoing pandemic, Cr Waud said daily traffic volumes appeared to be high enough to warrant the attention of TfNSW.
“As we are seeing with Stacey Street at the moment, there is a real need to increase the capacity of Davies Road through widening of the road,” he said.
“With the improvements that are slated for Stacey Street, and an increased population in the district, these issues are going to become worse.
“Although the widening of Davies Rd would present challenges, I believe that it is important to investigate these situations in order to help create better traffic solutions for the future.”
