Having also won the event in 2012 and 2013, it was de Rozario’s seventh victory in the world renowned race, but the 27-year-old still has a way to go to break the record of her coach Louise Sauvage, who dominated the women’s event with 10 wins between 1993 and 2003.
The event began in 1990 and was started with the idea that ‘kids with disabilities need heroes too’, and while normally attracting athletes from all around the world, this year’s event was an all-Australian affair with 13 competitors.
De Rozario is the reigning T54 World Champion in the 800m, has competed for Australia at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games and is also pre-selected for this year’s Australian Paralympic Team.
