Ghana artist debuts ‘Heritage’
ART lovers are invited to the opening night of ‘Heritage’ by West African Emmanuel Asante at Thirning Villa Artist Residence, 40 Arthur Street, Ashfield, on Thursday, October 10 (runs until October 20, 12-5pm daily), 6-9pm. In his first solo exhibition, Emmanuel, who was born in Ghana, arrived in Sydney in 2015 and his highly influenced by his culture, Frida Kahlo and Abdul Abdullah. Emmanuel started painting to deal with personal experiences. “Art is my escape from reality,” he says.

Skate Park picnic, workshops
INNER West Council will be hosting a free community picnic in support of Mental Health Month at Jack Shanahan Skate Park, Dulwich Hill, this Saturday, October 12, 12-4pm. First peoples’ celestial secret
JOIN facilitator Joanne Selfe for an opportunity to learn about the rich celestial knowledge systems of Australia’s first people at a talk, ‘Aboriginal Ways of Seeing the Night Sky’ at Marrickville Library on Thursday, October 10, 6.30-7.30pm. Joanne is an Aboriginal who grew up with stories of the Milky Way, shared by her mother, elders and community knowledge holders.
