Council reopened the centre on Tuesday with a family-friendly event offering free activities including a giant inflatable obstacle course, face painting, lunch and more.
The centre was reopened in March 2021 following extensive renovations with an upgraded Olympic-sized pool, a lift for people with disabilities, a learn-to-swim pool, a splash pad, children’s playground with a pirate ship and amenities.
The historic centre built in 1965 is a popular and nostalgic swimming centre for locals with many fighting to save the pools from the chopping block from 2011 to 2016.
Cumberland Council Mayor Lisa Lake who had previously worked with the local community to encourage the redevelopment of the Centre is pleased to see the Centre turn into a first-class venue.
“Council is very pleased to see this centre up and running again in time for the summer season. It is very special to our community with many residents having fond memories of the pools as children,” she said.
The centre offers a range of activities and programs to the public including Learn to Swim Classes, aqua aerobics, lap swimming, recreational swimming and more.
