Welcome over 400 at citizenship ceremony

MORE than 400 new citizens now get to call Australia and Cumberland their home, after two bumper Australian Citizenship ceremonies to mark Australian Citizenship Ceremony Day (September 17) at the Holroyd Centre in Merrylands.

Welcoming the new citizens, Cumberland City Mayor Lisa Lake says the council hosts more than 20 citizenship ceremonies a year, with more than 200 new citizens at each event.
“Australian Citizenship Day is an opportunity for us all to reflect on what it means to be an Australian citizen and appreciate the great place we call home,” she said
“Cumberland is such a great place to live. We are so culturally diverse.”
Australian Citizenship Day is a national event with celebrations taking place across the country during the week of September 17, including individuals, schools, community groups and organisations coming together to reflect on the contributions of citizens to our local communities.
