St Vincent de Paul Society NSW State President, Paul Burton, expressed his appreciation for each of the more than 10,000 members and volunteers who engage in community work across the State.
“Our volunteers are the backbone of the Society, and we simply could not have our level of impact without them,” he said.
“The theme of this year’s National Volunteer Week is ‘The Change Makers’. It emphasises the vital impact volunteers make to the lives of thousands every day.”
To mark this year’s National Volunteer Week, the Society is launching a new Volunteer Welcome Pack developed with the Society’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility at the forefront.
“With this new initiative, we hope to ensure that everyone who aspires to become part of our network of volunteers feels welcome and supported,” Mr Burton said.
Meanwhile Lions Australia CEO Rob Oerlemans says volunteers are needed now more than ever and this National Volunteer Week is not just about recognising the wonderful work of existing volunteers but also encouraging anyone who may be interested in giving back to give volunteering a go.
With 1,200 clubs and 25,000 volunteer members across the country, the organisation has now set itself a goal of having 30,000 members by 2030 and 50,000 members by 2050.
“For anyone interested in volunteering, it’s an excellent time to join us,” Mr Oerlemans said.
“We just enjoyed our National Conference which was the first full conference since covid.
“It was such a powerful reminder of the incredible impact Lions have across so many parts of the community, the need for our service and the many benefits of being part of our organisation.”
