Warm, nurturing culture helping all aim for stars

AT Birrong Girls High School, teachers and students are living up to the school’s motto, ‘Ad Astra: To the Stars’.

In keeping with this year’s theme, ‘Proud to Belong’, Public Education Week will be all about students getting involved, trying something new and having fun together during a two week-long festival of events showcasing the role that belonging and collaboration play in building successful relationships.
To get everyone moving, staff versus student table tennis competitions will run at lunchtime, while creative art lovers can experience a student/teacher portrait drawing competition, the Spoken Word competition or be the audience for the scintillating speakers in the annual Henrietta Wooster Speaking Competition finals, named in honour of the school’s first Principal.
The Spelling Bee and Bingo! competitions are always popular and to learn a new skill, students can even attend a Japanese calligraphy workshop.
If quiz shows are more their style, they can participate in the student versus staff Flag of the World competition or Historical Trivia show.
Other teachers and students will be vying for the honours in the Chess competition or show off their skills in the multiplication tournament.
Then in true MasterChef style, students can also add polish to their culinary skills by entering the bake-off.
“No matter the preference, Public Education Week at Birrong Girls High School celebrates our ongoing successful partnership between staff and students, underpinned by a warm, nurturing culture that fosters active participation,” Deputy Principal Kelly Andrews said.
