Published earlier this year, authors of Turkish Charlie Ryan: Canakkale’s ANZAC Hero John Gillam and Yvonne Fletcher (pictured top), along with illustrator Lillian Webb, joined members of the Cumberland RSL sub-branch for the book’s Auburn launch at the Turkish Welfare Association last month.

Aimed a junior primary school children, the book tells how the young medical graduate joined the Turkish army in a search for adventure.
Forty years later, as the head of the Australian Army Medical Corps, he landed at Gallipoli to fight his former comrades, and went on to be a pivotal figure in the Armistice of May 24, 1915.
Copies of the book purchased by the sub-branch were also donated to local primary schools.
