Volunteer roles on offer

Are you wanting to lend a helping hand in your community?
Then Canterbury City Community Centre might have the right volunteer job for you.
At the start of this year, the centre started a new service helping members of the community with filling out forms.
Mahmuda and Hardip, two volunteers with the form filling service, are a great example of how giving a few hours of your time can make the world of difference in the lives of others, as well as your own.
Mahmuda said: “Helping people out gives me happiness in my heart that cannot compare to money or awards.”
Hardip said: “I have learnt a lot and am now looking for more ways to volunteer.
“It’s true what they say, the move you give, the happier you feel.”
Canterbury City Community Centre is looking to expand their pool of friendly volunteers to help people with filling out forms and accessing online government services using the MyGov Website.
Areas of help can include: Centrelink papers, Medicare forms, Housing applications, application forms, any general forms, understanding letters and other documents, registering and checking MyGov accounts.
Volunteers need to be able to read, write and speak English and have a basic level of computer literacy.
Canterbury City Community Centre is committed to providing volunteers with the support, training and assistance to make your volunteering experience as worthwhile and rewarding as possible.
Interested volunteers need to attend a training session on the MyGov website, how to fill out basic forms, working with people with a culturally and linguistically diverse background and other useful information.
The training session will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 12.30pm-4pm, at Canterbury City Community Centre, 130 Railway Parade, Lakemba.
