Mrs Martin was 49-years-old when she suffered but survived a cardiac arrest while at a show at Qudos Bank Arena in 2013. St John volunteers performed CPR on her for 15 minutes and using a defibrillator to shock her heart four times before paramedics arrived.
Her story led to an extraordinary relationship between her family and St John Ambulance and thanks to their fundraising efforts, the purchase of several defibrillators have already saved other lives and many more into the future.
Her name now adorns the Granville division’s new van – unveiled by State MP for Auburn, Lynda Voltz and Isabelle Moutia, Superintendent of Granville Combined Division of St John Ambulance – in recognition of her and husband Don’s outstanding fundraising efforts and support, as well as hopefully starting conversations about heart health and supporting St John Ambulance.
Van named for heart attack survivor
ALMOST 10 years to the day that Naomi Martin suffered a massive cardiac arrest – and two years after she passed away from breast cancer – her story of survival is still helping drive up support for St John Ambulance Granville, whose volunteers helped save her life.
