Minister Park said the Government had an “ambitious and comprehensive plan to invest in the State’s healthcare”, including $1.3 billion to build the new Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital.
He said families had a right to timely, equitable healthcare and they should have confidence in their local hospitals.
“That’s why we’re committed to delivering the essential services our community deserves and expects, all while building the healthcare infrastructure to meet the need of these growing communities into the future,” he said.
Premier Chris Minns said the healthcare system had been under incredible pressure in recent years and promised to deliver “world class healthcare”.
The new education centre at Canterbury will increase capacity to upskill health workers and train future medical professionals, providing training for university students as well as medical, nursing and allied health staff in a range of specialist fields.
Mr Park said the education centre would complement the Government’s plans to redevelop Canterbury Hospital and ensure staff could continue to deliver high-quality care in state-of-the-art facilities.
The redevelopment will also deliver renal dialysis services, a new 20-bed community mental health facility, enhanced paediatric facilities and outpatient services, as well as additional operating theatres and birthing rooms.
Upgrade Canterbury Hospital in $350m redevelopment plan
TWO weeks after opening the $1 million education centre at Canterbury Hospital, Health Minster Ryan Park returned with Premier Chris Minns to announce the hospital would be redeveloped at a cost of $350 million.
