Anthony Camilleri
With more than 33 years of service with Fire and Rescue NSW, Anthony consistently goes above and beyond to support others.
He took part in a mammoth charity bike ride stretching from Sydney to Perth and donated all of the profits from his café business in Bali, to support the welfare of the local community.
He also assisted the Vanuatu community in the wake of Cyclone Pam in 2015 and was decorated for rescuing people trapped in a car after an accident.
“It was a big surprise to to find out I was up for an award,” he said.
“I am dedicated to the profession; it’s a job that I love but not for any reward so to get this recognition puts me outside my comfort zone.”
A permanent firefighter with Fire and Rescue NSW, Craig has supported investigations surrounding the cause and origin of fires, particularly those in the built environment, through his specialist skills in training accelerant detection canines.
He has been stationed at Goulburn, Salamander Bay and Bankstown fire stations, and specialises in rescue.
Also taken aback at hearing he was up for an award, Craig says working as a firefighter is his dream career.
“I love it. Every day is different, it keeps the work environment vibrant.”
State winners will be announced in October, with national winners announced in November.
