Unmissable National Songwriting Awards on

AN unmissable fixture on the music industry calendar, the National Songwriting Awards are on offer at Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL on Wednesday, October 30.

The night will feature the induction by Glenn A Baker of iconic Australian songwriting team Greedy Smith and Martin Plaza (Mental As Anything).
With Martin suffering ill-health, Greedy will be there accepting the award and performing live with the Mental As Anything band, with hits including Live it Up, Too Many Times, Come Around, The Nips Are Getting Bigger, If You Leave Me Can I Come Too and Mr Natural.
Other highlights include ‘Song And Dance Man’ Mike McClellan and the winning songs from each category in the 2019 Australian Songwriting Contest.
All Top 10 place-getters will be acknowledged by celebrity presenters and sponsors, including Ray Burgess (King of Pop nominee), 60s singing stars Dinah Lee and Little Pattie, original members of Ray Brown and the Whispers, Lawrie Barclay and Pat Jeffery, Colin Burgess (ex AC/DC and Masters Apprentices drummer) and Ray Butler from the Johnny O’Keefe band.
MC will be Chairman of Wests Ashfield Leagues Club and ex weather man, Mike Bailey, with supporters and sponsors in attendance including Inner West Council members and West Ashfield Leagues Board members, real estate agent Tony Andreacchio and radio announcer Rick Wayde.
Major Sponsor APRA, the music industry collection agency, is providing $3,000 cash to the APRA/ASA Songwriter of the Year, with the winner announced on the night and a $500 prize for the evening’s best live performance.
Wests Ashfield is also offering a lucky door prize that could see you eating for free at its fabulous restaurant, The Garden.

The price includes a three-course meal and drinks all night. Doors open at 6.30pm for the show which starts at 7pm.
