Two wins and finalist for Keep Australia Beautiful

THE 27th annual Keep Australia Beautiful NSW 2020 Sustainable Cities Awards were hosted by Cumberland Council at the newly opened Granville Centre last month.

Recognising projects or actions in a number of areas of environmental sustainability and social inclusion, Keep Australia Beautiful CEO Val Southam said the awards “instil optimism and highlight positive outcomes even during times of hardship”.
Picking up two gongs, the Auburn Hospital Recyclers won the Return and Earn Litter Prevention Award for their ‘Cans for Kids’ project, as well as being named joint winners of the Waste Less Recycle More Waste Minimisation Award for the ‘Smashing the Trash – Recycle, don’t bin and we win!’ campaign.
One of six finalists for the Overall Sustainable Cities award, Cumberland Council also picked up a Highly Commended Award for their ‘Benchmarking Heat’ project in the Response to Climate Change category, while the Parramatta River Catchment Group won the Young Legend’s Environment Award for their ‘River Aware’ project.
