Two teams qualify for semi-finals after wins

AUBURN Eagles’ Fifth grade and Auburn Green sides will carry the hopes of the club into the semi-finals.

The club entered last weekend’s round Qualifying Finals matches confident that all its participating teams, second, third, fourth and fifth grades in the Sydney Shires Competition and the Auburn Green and Auburn Eagles in the Chappelow Cup Competition, would, if they played to their ability, progress to the semi-finals of the respective competitions.
But that wasn’t to be, with Fifth grade and Auburn Green the only sides to enjoy success.
A club spokesperson says there is no doubt that the two semi-final bound teams will be in for tough matches but the club believes that both teams will equip themselves well, in what are expected to be two very tight games of cricket.
While the overall results were disappointing for the Eagles with only two of the six teams qualifying for next weekend’s semi-finals, there were some fine individual performances, including third grade’s Aaron Hadley 5/35 and 2/17, wicketkeeper Louis Wiley taking six catches and one stumping, Mohamed Dewji 3/15 and 0/3 off 13 overs; and Auburn Green’s Sherwin Ranaweera taking 4/5 off 8 overs.
Results: Second grade, Auburn 94 and 84 lost Warringah 160 and 1/19; Third grade, Auburn 119 (S Bridges 34, F Butterfield 30) lost Burwood Briars 146 (A Hadley 5/35, M Dewji 3/15) and 6/69 (A Hadley 2/17, A Diwan 2/7); Fourth grade, Auburn 25 and 0/47 (A Bailey-Fong 26 no) lost to Mt Pritchard-Southern Districts 244 (Z Ilyas 3/28); Fifth grade, Auburn 105 (S Gitte 27, R Ebert 20) lost Pennant Hills 113(R Ebert 3/15, A Kansara 2/11, A Akkhar 2/22); Chappelow Cup, Auburn Green 1/45 d Burwood Maroons 44 (S Ranaweera 4/5, U Buhary 2/10); and Auburn Eagles 75 (O Tawakal 24, A Sriram 18) lost to Burwood Brothers 2/76 (Z Ali 1/15, H Ashkar 1/32).
