Fire spree stuns area

A MAN has been charged after allegedly setting fire to two abandoned homes in Guildford last Thursday night.

One was destroyed and the other significantly damaged.
When firefighters arrived at the first house on Kane Street about 7pm they found it well alight. They battled the blaze for 90 minutes before bringing it under control. Luckily no neighbouring properties were threatened.
Three hours later, firies responded to reports of a house alight on nearby Guildford Road, Guildford.
When they arrived just after 10pm, they found the house well alight and despite their efforts, it was completely destroyed in just over an hour.
A 28-year-old Guildford man, arrested nearby, has been charged with three counts of destroy property by fire.
Police have linked the fires with a fire at the same house on Kane Street the night before, when a mattress was set alight. There was only minor damage sustained.
