Two free days to enjoy a ‘walking basketball’ class

STAY on the ball with other locals and get more active during two Try Walking Basketball sessions next month at Bankstown Basketball Stadium, with registrations now open.

You do not need to be a highly tuned athlete to compete; you can still join in with a number of ailments and both events are free and open to all ages and abilities.
Hosted by Bankstown Bruins with Bankstown Basketball Association’s Community Growth Programs Administrator Amy Nolan conducting the sessions, the days are an opportunity for those who like basketball but don’t want to play at full speed.
Nolan says basketball features a range of health and social benefits.
“It reduces blood pressure and offers cardiovascular benefits for the heart and circulation,” she said.
“It’s also great for muscle and bone development as well as co ordination.
“Walking basketball is low impact so it’s easy on the joints and it’s a way to enjoy the game without having to commit to full on competition.”
Amy said the stadium would be adhering to its strict Covid Safety plan, limiting the number of players and prescreening all participants.
“Walking Basketball trial days were very successful in Victoria prior to Covid and we are keen to develop more interest in the sport both in NSW and here locally,” she said.
The days will be held on Fridays, September 11 and 18, 10-11am.
To register, contact the stadium on 9707 1866 or Amy on 8765 8555.
