Growing up in Merrylands and Guildford before joining Two Blues aged 16, the 23-year-old will be playing centre during the Games at Paris’ Stade de France in Saint-Denis from July 24-30.
He made his Olympic debut in 2020 Tokyo Games, went on to become the leading points-scorer (343) in the 2021-22 World Rugby Sevens Series which Australia won for the first time, and at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games – then aged 21 – the fleet-footed winger was the team’s leading points-scorer with one try and seven conversions from six games.
Roache said they were going into the Games as the underdog but hoped to surprise the world.
“We’ve got a really good team, with plenty of experience playing together,” he said.
“It’s just a matter of getting our cohesion right to make sure we perform our best at this world elite level; we’re all up for it and plan to bring back gold.”
