Two Blues off to strong start

WELCOMING returning players and looking for new recruits, the Western Sydney Two Blues have plenty of reasons to look forward with excitement to the 2021 rugby season.

Work is expected to be completed by May on their home stadium at Granville Park, which is also set to be named after club stalwart and living legend Eric Tweedale who turns 100 in the same month.
With the 2021 Shute Shield kicking off on April 10, the club’s pre-season campaign is already off to a strong start after taking out the Macarthur 10s tournament at Camden Rugby Park on February 20.
After five games, they claimed the champions’ title in emphatic style with a 59-19 grand final victory over Shoal Haven in a good sign of things to come for season 2021.
Earlier in the month, the Two Blues men’s team also claimed the Mick ‘Whale’ Curry Memorial 7s title in Hamilton Newcastle, while the Colts team also did well to reach the grand final before narrowly losing out to Gordon.
The tournament also saw the launch of the Two Blues’ women’s 7s program, featuring players with an average age of 17 stepping up to premier level rugby.
They finished with a win against Nelsons Bay, a draw against tournament runners up Eastern Suburbs, and a loss to the eventual tournament winners Southern Districts, with several of the female players also catching the attention of Rugby Australia 7s talent ID staff.
Player registrations for all Two Blues teams are open, and 2021 club memberships are also on sale with details at twobluesrugby.com.au.
