Two Blues’ first clean sweep

IN their first clean sweep of the season, Western Sydney Two Blues Rugby Union’s all three senior grades enjoyed convincing wins over Souths.

First Grade won 28-18, Second Grade, 47-7, and Third Grade, also 47-7.
Two Blues Operations Manager Randy Basra said Souths ran away with a 15-0 lead after 25 minutes as First Grade started poorly, got too fancy and didn’t stick to their game plan.
“Finally we woke up and started playing to our structures and scored two quick tries with one of them being a contender for ‘try of the week’, and went into half time down 18-14,” Basra said.
After a pep talk from the head coach at half time, Two Blues came out firing and scored straight away to take the lead 21-18.
With a lot of tit for tat from both teams, with mistakes, penalties and no team really dominating the game, they had to wait until the 78th minute to secure another try and achieve a bonus point win.
Basra said their aim was to play finals footy, something First Grade hadn’t been able to achieve since 2014.
“We now sit sixth on the ladder with some incredibly tough games ahead of us but destiny is in our own hands,” he said.
“We will need to perform much better with two away games coming up against the Shute Shield champions Sydney University and northern beaches powerhouse Manly.”
