Two Blues celebrating win

WITH the sun returning to shine on them, Western Sydney Two Blues Rugby Union First Grade nailed their first game of the season with a strong 22-19 win agains heavyweights Gordon.

Second Grade and 1st Colts were defeated but Two Blues General Manager Randy Basra said it was amazing to have Eric Tweedale’s family in attendance for the Eric Tweedale Round.
He said the family met all First Grade players and staff in a private meeting on Saturday and then led the team onto the field for a minute’s silence before kick off.
“We started well, played fast and aggressive rugby and led 17-0 in the first half,” he said.
“We had a player who has come through our system at the club who made his First Grade starting debut and scored his first try – Christian Papa.”
Basra said it came from a great piece of work by new recruit Abel Magalogo who cut two Gordon defenders in the middle and offloaded to the backs and with fantastic support work, scored a great try.
“We knew Gordon would come back in the second half which they did and scored a try after the buzzer at the end of the game to bring the score line closer,” Basra said.
“It’s our first win in Round 1 of a season since 2015.”
This weekend, they host West Harbour in a Pasifika round, with six games being played on the main field including the women’s team.
