Swim Club President Graham Edwards said their 55th season in 2023 was the first time since covid that they were able to hold uninterrupted club and championship races every Saturday morning, as well as holding two major swimming meets – the Parramatta Inter-Club Cup (between Merrylands, Parramatta City and McCredie Park Aquatics) and Merrylands SwimFest.
Merrylands won the Inter-Club Cup pointscore for the third time (having last won it in 2016). The meet was not held in 2020 or 2021.
During Merrylands SwimFest, their major meet of the year, they welcomed 214 swimmers from 24 clubs, with Merrylands swimmers winning a total of 32 medals – 11 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze.
There were also eight new club records set in the season – Joseph Assi (12 Year Boys 200m Individual Medley and Year 12 year Boys 50m Breaststroke); Leo Zhu (13 Year Boys 100m Breaststroke and 13 Year Boys 50m Breaststroke); Matthew Vicic (15 Year Boys 100m Freestyle); Kylee Murray (Veteran Womens 100m Backstroke); Lillian Zhu (9 Year Girls 50m Breaststroke; and Katie Hope (Senior Womens 50m Backstroke.)
Edwards says the club provides club races and squad training to swimmers of all ages and abilities, as well as learn to swim classes.
“We are inclusive club open to all ages with our next club racing season commencing in October 2023 at Merrylands Swimming Centre,” he said.
