Trips, arts, crafts, sport, swim, movies and more on offer for free or low cost

GET a head start on entertaining your kids this autumn with the council’s free and low cost activities, including excursions, arts and crafts, sports, swimming lessons, movies and more.

• Monday, April 15: Woodwork workshop – learn to make your own tool box, pencil case or even a jewellery box from the guys at the Men’s Shed Birrong from 10.30am-2.30pm (meet at Belmore Youth Resource Centre) for 12-18 years. Cost: $10.
• Tuesday, April 16: Bush food cooking workshop hosted by Koori Kinnections at Belmore Youth Resource Centre (BYRC), with all recipes vegetarian and including lemon myrtle lemonade and damper from 10.30am-1pm for 12-18 years. Cost: $10.
• Tuesday, April 16: Laser tag clinic at Gough Whitlam Park, Earlwood, 8am-noon. Free but limited spots.
• Tuesday, April 16: Juniors clay club at Bankstown Arts Centre from 10am-noon for five to eight years. Join ceramicist Elsa Jara in creating your own clay crown to inspire empowerment. Students will be taught in a step-by-step demonstration with guidance and basic hand building techniques. Cost: $50 with Creative Kids Voucher.
• Tuesday, April 16: Soccer and basketball skills at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre for five to 12 years and catering for a range of abilities, 9am-noon. Cost: $30.
• Tuesday, April 16: Hogwarts wizarding challenge, a strategic battle game of witches and wizards for seven to 14 years at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre, 2.30-4pm. Free but bookings essential.
• Wednesday, April 17: Tube monster making for five to 12 years at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre, 2.30-4pm. Free but bookings essential.
• Wednesday, April 17, 10am-4pm and Thursday, April 18, 1-4pm: Teens ceramics intensive at the two-day workshop at Bankstown Arts Centre. Cost: $70 or $20 with Creative Kids Voucher.
• Thursday, April 18: Anime lovers drop in to play games like trivia and chill at BYRC with lunch and snacks from noon-4pm for 12-18 years. Cost: $5.
• Thursday, April 18: Cycle skills fun at Walshe Park Bike Track, 6 Trebartha Street, Bass Hill, 10am-1pm. Free lunch plus safety checks and riding tips for seven to 12 years. Cost: $15.
• Thursday, April 18: Emily Who and the Sydney Symphony perform in a concert with children 0 to five years singing along and moving to music at Bankstown Arts Centre, 10-10.30am. Cost: $6.
• Thursday, April 18: Skateboard holiday clinic at Bass Hill Skatepark, 854-856 Hume Hwy, Bass Hill, for five to 15 years, 10am-noon. All boards, helmets and protective gear provided. Free but limited spots.
• Thursday, April 18: Youth dungeons and dragons for 12 to 18 years at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre, 10am-2pm. Free but bookings essential.
• Thursday, April 18: Storytelling games for 12 to 18 years at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre, 10am-2pm. Free but bookings essential.
• Thursday, April 18: Dancing Bear, build a bear and learn to dance for five to 12 years at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre, 2.30-4pm. Free but bookings essential.
• Friday, April 19: Ultimate twirlers and school yard games at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre for five to 12 years, 9am-noon. Discover the world of baton twirling with a mix of dance, acrobatics and twirling! Follow up the fun with a range of classic school yard games everyone will enjoy. Cost: $30.
