Tried to import drug worth $2.5m

ORGANISED Crime Squad detectives have charged a man from Yagoona and allegedly seized cocaine valued at $2.5 million following an investigation into the importation and supply of prohibited drugs.

In May this year, the State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad began an investigation into the activities of an alleged criminal syndicate involved in the importation and supply of prohibited drugs across NSW.
Acting on intelligence information, officers from Australian Border Force (ABF) intercepted a consignment of vehicle parts which arrived in Sydney from Germany earlier this month and during a subsequent deconstruction, the consignment was allegedly found to contain 10kg of a white powder.
Police said the substance was tested and returned a presumptive positive result for cocaine which has an estimated potential street value of $2.5 million.
Detectives raided a home on The Avenue, Yagoona, last Friday, and allegedly seized cocaine, documents and electronic devices, before charging a 47-year-old man with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug.
Anyone with information relating to the importation or supply of illicit drugs, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
