Trial day for U13s Battle of States

THE hunt is on to recruit the best of the best young rugby league players across NSW to form the first U13s side to play against Queensland in a State of Origin or ‘Battle of the States’ as this new series of games later in the year will be called.

Hosted by Guildford Owls Junior Rugby League Football Club and sponsored by Granville’s AVS Security who also support the club as well as the Gold Coast Titans, an open trial day to select the team will be held on Wednesday, June 19, from 6pm, at McCredie Oval in Guildford.
The team selected will get free travel, accommodation, entry to theme parks, meet and greets with Titans players and more, including playing the series at Cbus Stadium on the Gold Coast.
Guildford Owls Secretary/Treasurer Clayton White says the club is very excited to host this initiative and to provide such an amazing opportunity for the State’s rugby league stars of the future.
“The Owls have two U13 sides and I’m hoping they all try out for the team plus we’re really looking forward to meeting all the young players from other clubs,” he said.
AVS Security’s Samantha Sleiman, the mother of a daughter and four footy loving boys, including Logan in one of the U13s Owls sides, said there were plenty of development opportunities for 15 years and up players but nothing for 13s and she and husband Peter hoped a ‘Battle of the States’ would give them a taste of top-level competition and experience.
“We’re hoping to get a good turnout on the trial day and already have had inquiries from clubs in Penrith, St Mary’s and Newcastle and that’s before it’s even been advertised,” she said.
“It’s very exciting and an opportunity not to be missed.”
