Trees shine in Jungle Jam

A FREE fun festival that promises to reignite your passion for trees – and possibly change your perception of them and their significance in Western Sydney – will feature a forum with garden guru Costa Georgiadis, one of Australia’s most famous landscape architects and TV presenters.

Jungle Jam will be held this Saturday, August 20, 11am-5pm, at Bankstown Arts Centre and includes a Tree Parade around the arts precinct, music performances, art workshops, forum with Costa and artists, food and much more.
The fun kicks off at 11am with the Heart Dancers, followed by the Tree Parade led by Costa and the Tree Veneration Society.
Entertainment includes an Honouring the Tree with Prophets (maypole dance), a Hula Hoop Show, House of Rhythm Drumming with Marina da Silva and an Enviro-Slam (Bankstown Slam Poetry).
There’s plenty for you to get actively involved in, including hula hooping with Melissa Wheeler, Tree Frottage, Banksiatown Tree Zine and Button Making with Outloud, Henna Designs, Screen Printing tote bags, listening to trees and Micro Magic with Theatre Kantanka and much more.
Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour says Jungle Jam is a great way to celebrate all things trees.
“Whether you have a passion for trees or if you’re just looking for a free family day out, Jungle Jam is going to be a lot of fun,” he said.
“It’s time to celebrate the amazing variety of trees we’re so lucky to have in our beautiful City.”
