It shows a day in the life of Ma (played by Grace Ho), an eccentric first-gen mother who favours her son and is excited to catch up with her dad (Leonard Sun) who lives overseas.
Andy (Robyn), is her uptight daughter focused on her career, while Johnny (Brendon Chhor), an unemployed man-child, is trying to figure out life.
“‘The Little Things’ explores themes of filial piety, modern versus traditional ideals, and success,” Robyn said. “The play serves as a reminder to take stock of the time we have and treasure the little things because they won’t last forever.
“It will give the audience a glimpse into the migrant experience and the divide between three generations.
“It is also an opportunity for migrant families to see themselves reflected on stage and show they’re not alone in their journey.”
Robyn says she chose to tell this story because it is one that is close to home.
“I have experienced what it’s like growing up in Australia, away from extended family overseas,” she said.
“There are times when I see myself prioritising work or friends over my family and later come to regret it. We need to cherish what and who we have now.”
Catch ‘The Little Things’ at Tom Mann Theatre, Surry Hills, on June 24, 26 and 27, with tickets $17-$27 available at stagecenta.com.
