Tragic ‘Lady M’ in Short+Sweet final

A COMEDIC look at what tipped Lady Macbeth over the edge to kill Duncan, ‘Lady M’ has reached Short + Sweet semi-finals this Friday night and stars Ashbury resident Rachel Bendeich

The 23-year-old graduate of The New York Conservatory of Music and The Australian Institute of Music with Bachelor of Music majoring in Music Theatre, has previously appeared in Mamma Mia, We Will Rock You, Singin’ in the Rain, Backwards Broadway, Freaky Friday and new Australian play, Watch Me Dance.
She says ‘Lady M’ is the humorous retelling of a classic Shakespearian tale.
Written by Judith Anne Duncan, directed by Lainey Baldwin and also starring Alicia Langley as Violet, ‘Lady M’ depicts life in the 11th century which is hard on a woman.
Lady Macbeth is grappling to find herself within the restrictions that surround her life.
Left stuck in the castle while her husband is off fighting, her only companion is her faithful maid, Violet. She feels trapped in an existential angst, until one day, it all becomes too much…
“I think the audience always enjoy seeing a different side of a story they know so well,” Rachel said.
“Getting a peep into the mind of Lady M just before everything kicks off, hearing how she talks about the events unravelling around her and her relationships is something we don’t often see.
“We have the luxury of an established story the audience is already familiar with so we just imagined the meaty stuff which is definitely food for thought.”
Catch ‘Lady M’ from 7.30pm on Friday at Tom Mann Theatre in Surry Hills.
