Track star smashes hurdle record

FINISHING the Little Athletics season off in style and in his last hoorah for Holroyd Little Athletics Club (LAC), rising star Rashid Kabba has come first in the Boys U17 200m Sprint, Long Jump and broken the State record in the 110m Hurdles at the State Track and Field Championships earlier this month.

However, he won’t be competing at the Australian Little Athletics Championships next month which only encompass the Australian Teams Championships for Under 13 athletes and the Australian Combined Event Championships for Under 15 athletes.
Joining Holroyd LAC in the U7s, Rashid has smashed most of his competition in the last 10 years, picking up numerous medals and State and National titles along the way.
Holroyd LAC registrar Aino Matwisyk said Rashid was a future Olympian in the making.
“This was the last season of him being able to compete in Little Athletics, as he turns 17 soon,” she said.
“But he will start to compete more at senior level in the open age categories and we wish him all the best.
“He is funny, extremely talented and a great mentor for our younger athletes.
“I’m sure he will still be around the traps too considering that his four younger brothers and sister are all members of Holroyd LAC.”
The sixth Little Athletics Centre established in NSW, Holroyd LAC has a long and proud history as a member of the Mid-West Metropolitan Zone and Region 7.
“We celebrated our 50th year on March 13 and continue to welcome all,” Aino said.
“Families may come and go as their children change sports or get too old, but we know the blue and gold uniform still holds a warm place in a lot of family memories.”
The 2022-2023 Little Athletics season gets underway on the first Friday in September.
