The upgrade included: New speed humps on Burwood Road at Station Street, Collins Street, Belmore Station, on Bridge Road and in front of Canterbury League Club; new raised pedestrian crossings on Burwood Road at Redman Parade and Tobruk Avenue; new street furniture; reconstruction of footpaths, gutters and pram ramps; line marking; and landscaping.
Mayor Khal Asfour says the project ensures motorists will now travel at a safe speed and provide even further protection for pedestrians in what is a very highly used area of the town centre.
“It’s a win win for everyone – residents looking to shop local, businesses wanting to attract more customers, and pedestrians and motorists moving or travelling through the area,” he said.
“Our focus in all our town centre improvement projects is to further improve accessibility and safety.”
