Whether you have a sweet tooth or want to spice it up, there’s a tour for every tastebud this Saturday (July 27), with more than 28 local businesses opening their doors to showcase the best of Bankstown.
The Bankstown Bites festival will run from 10am-4pm at Olympic Parade and Griffith Park, Bankstown.
Recently opened at Bankstown’s Little Saigon Plaza, An Truong Le’s Peanut Butter Bar will take part in the tours for the first time this year.
At the age of 21, Le opened his Peanut Butter Bar in December, with the hopes to bring something unique and different to the area.
“I saw an opportunity to bring something different to Bankstown and locals are loving it,” he said.
Having grown up in Bankstown, Le knew there was no better place to open a business of his own.
“Bankstown’s a really multicultural area, there’s a variety of cuisines that you will not find anywhere else,” he said.
“We serve Asian, Italian and Lebanese sweets at my café. Our best sellers are the cheesecake, brownie and acai. They all come with peanut butter topping that you can pour over the top.”
Le’s creations will be a highlight of the ‘Sugar n Spice’ food tour, where attendees will savour the flavour of his signature peanut butter brownie, acai and home-made gelato.
Online bookings are open for the 17 different tasting tours, which cost up to $25 a person.
Mayor Bilal El-Hayek encouraged foodies to book in quickly because the tours traditionally sold out fast.
“Our food tours are popular and you’ll get a chance to experience some of the tantalising flavours of our City,” Mayor El-Hayek said. “Bring your friends and family along to taste what Bankstown has to offer,” he said.
Other highlights of Bankstown Bites include food stalls, live entertainment and cooking demonstrations by celebrity chef Anna Polyviou. There will also be free face painting, a paint your own little umbrella boutique, “kids in the kitchen” activities, roving entertainers and much more.
